Dilip Kumar's Naya Daur to get coloured

The BR Chopra-directed classic Naya Daur, starring the inimitable Dilip Kumar, will hit the theatres in a coloured format on June 22, reports Diganta Guha.

The Dilip Kumar magic is back on the big screen. His fans will get to see the BR Chopra-directed classic in a coloured format (remastered 5:1 Dolby digital surround sound) on June 22, when it is re-released.

“It’s going to be a normal worldwide release,” informs Ravi Chopra, accomplished filmmaker and BR Chopra’s son, who took this initiative.

Starring Dilip Kumar and Vyjayanthimala in the lead, the film that released in 1957 was an instant hit.

“We would have made it in colour at that time itself had it been available. Dad is fond of the subject of the film, which is man versus machine, and hence we thought we should re-release the film,” says Chopra.

It took two-and-a-half years and a budget of Rs 3.5 crore at a Goa studio to give the film its new look. “I will also release the music album of the film in eight to ten days,” informs Chopra. OP Nayyar scored the music of the film.

Chopra says his father was very happy when he showed the film to him. “He actually sat for three hours watching it,” he says, elaborating that he plans to re-release more of his father’s classics subject to the box-office prospects of Naya Daur.

Talking about the Dilip Kumar magic, Chopra adds that the actor’s versatility can never be questioned. “It is very important for the new generation to know what talent we had. I am planning to ask him to attend the premiere of the film,” he says.

The remastered

Mughal-e-Azam

was a box-office success when it was released in 2004. It ran consecutively at theatres for over four weeks and grossed Rs 10 crore in India. So much was the film’s popularity that it was also released in Pakistan and UK, among other countries.
