Remember that joke about a man going on drinking to make his wife look pretty to him? Well, a new survey has revealed that downing a few drinks can not only make one feel more attractive but also make everyone around you look more beautiful.

Out of 1000 Australians who were surveyed by organisers of the annual FebFast event a third of drinkers felt more beautiful after a few drinks and 25 percent believed other people thought they were better looking.



But only 3 percent women believe that drunken men are attractive and less than 10 per cent of men think females with a few drinks under their belt look good.

Almost 50 percent of drinkers aged between 17 and 32 said they feel more attractive when drunk, while 43 per cent of 20- to 29-year-olds feel like they need to drink alcohol with work colleagues to fit in.



"Everyone's confidence goes up after a few drinks. It's just more social," the Daily Telegraph quoted Newcastle electrician Simon Rankovich, 24, heads out semi-regularly for a drink with his mates, as saying.



Professor Maree Teesson from The National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre's Professor warned that although alcohol may seem like a ‘feel good’ option at first, eventually it acts as a depressant.



"People can get into a vicious cycle of thinking they can only have fun if they drink," she said.
