Varun Gandhi is excited about his upcoming wedding, but for now, it’s ailing naani on his mind. Read on for more.

“Yeah, I’m excited,” begins 30-year-old BJP MP from Pilibhit, Varun Gandhi, as HT City called to confirm news of his upcoming wedding with Bengali graphics designer, Yamini Roy Chowdhury. “But right now, I am in the hospital, as my grandmother is unwell,” he adds, explaining why he can’t share more about his marriage plans yet. His maternal grandmom is undergoing treatment for cancer.

Varun’s mother and BJP MP, Maneka Gandhi, made the news of Varun’s engagement public on Sunday, adding that Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, too, would be invited to the wedding. When contacted, Maneka, refrained from elaborating on the preparations. “This is not the right time… we will talk about it later,” she said. While reports suggest that the wedding is scheduled for December 11, a close family member, on condition of anonymity, says that no date has been fixed yet.

Nicknamed Inca, she comes from Santiniketan and is a Delhi-based graphics designer in her late twenties

She graduated in philosophy from St Stephen’s College, Delhi and studied designing at Sorbonne University, Paris

Yamini, daughter of film critic Aruna Vasudev, is a vegetarian

She met Varun five years ago through common friends in New York, and friendship blossomed when he returned to India after studying abroad
