John Abraham doesn't like birthday parties; he isn't likely to cut a cake or even be happy if you break into a song for him. The only thing he looks forward to, he says, are wishes from family and friends. As he turns 40, the rather unexcited birthday boy shares his (lack of) plans.

How are you celebrating your birthday?

I don't celebrate birthdays. I'm just going to be with my family and close ones. My parents came to Cochin yesterday (December 16), where I was shooting for Madras Café. I was with them, and now, I'm in Mumbai.

Any birthday memories you cherish?

Two years ago, some fans brought a cake for me; it was really touching and sweet of them. So I invited them to my house.

What's the best birthday gift you've ever received?

Each birthday, my parents put some money in an envelope, which has gone up from Rs. 101 to Rs. 5,001 today. The sum isn't important, but the envelope is special. It's their love and blessings.

Do you cut a cake on your birthday?

I am one of those who doesn't like the tune of the song, 'Happy birthday to you'. I don't like cutting cakes either. I like quiet birthdays. I'm a recluse; I keep to myself. This is how most of my family celebrates their birthdays. We pick up the phone, wish the person happy birthday and that's it. If we meet, we chat for 15 minutes. We never make a 'birthday' out of a birthday.

Who is usually the first one to wish you?

I don't know the answer to that question. I've never kept track. I get calls at midnight from friends and family members, which is sweet.
