I was feeling a lot of anger: Farah Akhtar
Filmmaker Frahan Akhtar says, “I was feeling a lot of anger (after the December 16 gangrape in Delhi). It’s not possible to ignore it or bury your head in the sand and just carry on with your life."
Farhan Akhtar may have taken it upon himself to create awareness about gender equality and rape, but the father of two seems to have another big concern. The actor-filmmaker says that as a parent, he realises that concerns about children’s safety has increased manifold today.
“The biggest change that I’ve noticed between my parents’ generation and ours is the concern about the danger outside the house. Now there is a certain fear that has come into everyone — will our loved ones be safe when they are out of the house? That is not a nice feeling, especially as a parent,” says the 39-year-old.
Meanwhile, Farhan has garnered support from his Bollywood colleagues for the (Men Against Rape and Discrimination) MARD initiative.
Explaining why he decided to take up the cause, the filmmaker says, “I was feeling a lot of anger (after the December 16 gangrape in Delhi). It’s not possible to ignore it or bury your head in the sand and just carry on with your life. So instead of just going insane thinking about it I decided to channelise the anger.”
