“It’s a working birthday. I will be shooting the whole day, and will have a celebration in the evening,” replied Akshay, via SMS on being asked about his birthday plans. Wife Twinkle and son Aarav have already joined him there.
Back home in India, HT City spoke to Akshay’s friends and industry associates. Anees Bazmee, director of Singh is Kinng, said, “This birthday has added one more day to the celebrations that we’ve been having since Singh Is Kinng’s release. He is here to rule.”
While Preeti Puri, of UTV Motion Pictures feels he “is a self-made man who truly deserves to be the king of Bollywood,” trade analyst, Taran Adarsh thinks, “Akshay is the most bankable star because of his versatility in terms of action, comedy, or romance.”
From action films to comedies, Akshay has fine-tuned his acting skills through the years and is regarded as one of the most versatile actors today. “Akshay is never shy of playing any role. His interest in his work is so strong that a director never has to drive him,” says director Priyadarshan, who, if reports are to be believed, has just signed on
Akshay for De Dhana Dhan, with Katrina.
Known for having dated some of the prettiest B-town women, Akshay finally tied the knot with Twinkle Khanna in 2001. “Akshay is a true Punjabi. His family means the world to him,” says Nikhil Advani, who has directed him in Chandni Chowk to China. Akshay recently had Aarav’s name tattooed on his back.
Akshay’s female co-stars are all praise for him. Priyanka hopra attributes the success of Aitraaz to him: “When I was offered Aitraaz, I was scared, but Akshay insisted that I do the role and supported me a lot.”
His friends swear by him and wish only the best for him. “It’s only going to get better,” says designer Rocky S, who’s been with him for over eight years.
