Oscar-winning actor Michael Douglas’s son Cameron may have to face an imprisonment of at least 10 years for running a “large-scale” drug racket.
Heroin addict Cameron, 31, was taken into custody in New York in July 2009 and crystal meth worth about 12,500pounds was seized, Manhattan Superior Court was told last week.
Michael, who appeared at an unsuccessful bail hearing on Friday, is said to be “devastated” but has prepared to accept his son’s fate.
“Cameron’s a hopeless addict but no one had any idea he was dealing such vast quantities of drugs to fuel his habit,” the Daily Express quoted a friend of the 65-year-old actor, as saying.
The pal added: “Michael believes jail time may now be the only thing that can save his son’s life.”
Cameron accepted charges of conspiracy to distribute illegal drugs and heroin possession. His sentence will be pronounced on April 27.
