She may idolise the King of Pop, but R&B singer Rihanna should keep off Michael Jackson’s moves. That’s what her fans are saying, after the singer “massacred” MJ’s iconic moonwalk while performing on-stage as a part of her ‘Earth Tour’ in Hamburg. On YouTube, where the video has had more than a lakh views, Elaine, a user, said, “Mega fail. hated 2 even c u try!” “That was a joke... a mockery of MJ’s signature move,” posted Garyjones.

Our desi heroes, too, have tried to imitate the moonwalk in their films or stage performances. Most recently, actor Shahid Kapoor moonwalked at an awards function earlier this year. Salman Khan tried it in Maine Pyaar Kiya, Shah Rukh Khan gave it a shot in One 2 Ka 4 and Hrithik Roshan did it in Lakshya.

Choreographers, however, feel MJ’s walk is something best left alone. “Nobody in Bollywood can reach MJ’s level of perfection. They can only be an average copy. Only Prabhu Deva does it well,” says choreographer Remo D’Souza. “There’s no one — not even a Shahid or a Hrithik — who can imitate MJ’s moves,” says choreographer Sandip Soparrkar.
