Who would have thought that Goregaon (E) would become home to international designer Jade Jagger’s first project in Asia? The daughter of Rolling Stones frontman, Mick Jagger, who already has a finger in every pie from modeling to designing interiors, jewellery and clothing, says, “Mumbai is ahead of its time, and so modern with its trendy restaurants and fashion, yet you see a juxtaposition of the more traditional eateries and family life.”

The property, Lodha Fiorenza, comprises two, three and four bedroom apartments, all designed by Jade and her partner Tom Bartlett, along with the duplex sky villas which feature plunge pools and double height living rooms.

Jade has drawn extensively on her Indian experiences, using peacock tones in the colour palette along with patterned tiles like those found in old Mughal architecture. “I have a very close relationship with India and have been working here for 20 years, exporting and taking things from it to other countries. So I’m glad that I finally have something to give back,” she reckons.

She counts the art deco buildings along Marine Drive and the green expanses of Goa, where she’s just opened her flagship store in the country, as other sources of inspiration to create the 1930s feel of the apartments. “Indian women love colour, so we’ve used that in our interiors,” Jade explains. “But it’s important to balance the relationship between a man and a woman, so we can’t make the house too girlie,” she grins. Ask her what she’d like people to use most within her signature space and she bats back, “Collections. It’s important for people to fill the space with things they care about and have the confidence to break the rules.”

While Jagger loves spending time at live gig venue Blue Frog, which she calls “fun, but quite crazy,” and at Intercontinental Hotel’s Dome restaurant at Marine Drive, she admits her own club, due to open within the Lodha property, is where she hopes Mumbai’s jetset crowd will be partying. “There’s going to be a lounge bar inside and a large terrace on top of one of the buildings. So, hopefully people will be coming here,” she says. To which Bartlett promptly adds, “It’ll be so exclusive, we’ll probably be the ones knocking on the door, begging to be let in.”
