‘My daughter will live in India’
Actor Julia Roberts talks about her children’s affinity towards India and her love for Hinduism.
Pretty Woman Julia Roberts can’t get enough of India. The Hollywood star is inclined towards all things Indian and loves everything from the desi spicy food to the spiritual experiences in the country.
Roberts’ fondness has also rubbed on to her kids. “My children love India. Hazel says when she grows up, she’s going to live in India,” says the actor, talking about her six and a half year old daughter. Roberts has been visiting India almost every year with her family. “To be in India is to experience India. It is not that you have to go find it. It is all right there,” she says.
The 43-year-old converted to Hinduism in 2009 while shooting for her movie Eat, Pray, Love in India. About her religious beliefs, she says, "I am very intrigued by and interested in Hinduism. Along with my husband Danny (Moder) and our three children, we go to temples to chant, pray and celebrate," she says.
On the professional front, next up for Roberts is Tom Hanks’ second directorial venture, Larry Crowne, which hits Indian screens on July 8. Excited about the Indian release, she says, “It is going to be interesting to see how it does in India.” Roberts will also be seen in Indian-origin Hollywood director, Tarsem Singh’s Snow White.
Roberts, who took a sabbatical from acting to be a mother, makes a striking revelation when she says her children are ignorant about their mom’s star status. “They don’t know what I do yet. I kind of like it that way. I don’t know what they’re going to ask me when they do realise. I want movies to stay special for them for as long as possible,” she says.
However, the big league actor and a successful producer is not interested in turning a director ever. “I can direct breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I take pride in my kitchen, but I’m not going to direct a movie,” she says.
