Naughty no more
A film with his daughter and some serious subjects — Govinda plans an image makeover as he turns 46 today.
Father-son combinations were always a hit in Bollywood. But actor Govinda has taken a cue from fellow actor Anil Kapoor it seems. “Very soon” he plans to start a film along side daughter Narmmadaa Ahuja. The youngster, who made many a head turn when she appeared as Salman Khan’s armcandy at the 2008 IIFA Awards, has been waiting for long to make her debut. But the proud daddy says, “It’s better to wait for your turn and come in with a big film that gives you the right platform, than be in a rush and break your heart.”

The actor turns 46 today, and he made it special by resuming the shoot of Jagmohan Mundra’s Naughty@40 on Friday. “Yeah, we resumed the shoot after a long hiatus. However, the film is no longer called Naughty@40. The title will change but we haven’t locked on an alternative yet. I’ve never done an upmarket, Hinglish film like this before. There’s a lot of angrezi (English) but it’s going well.”
And Govinda is honest enough to admit that the economic slowdown took a toll on the film. “It was difficult for us to keep rolling ahead. So we took a break,” he says. His other films, too, have suffered. Like Ravi Chopra’s comedy, Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai, is still to hit the theatres. “There’s also Run Bhola Run, another dhamaal movie.”
In the meanwhile, the actor is working on an image makeover. “I’m angling at a different kind of cinema now with movies like Mani Ratnam’s Raavan and Naughty@40 or whatever it will be called. Hopefully, they will change people’s perception of Govinda.” Any celebrations planned for the birthday? “Nothing special. We’ll have a small puja at home, phir sabse dua loonga.”
