Soon, you can quote sections from the Ramayana, and you don’t have to be a scholar to do so. In fact, you don’t even have to read it, or see the whole epic on the tube — you can just listen to the whole thing on the radio!

Radio station Fever 104 has roped in renowned artists such as Naseeruddin Shah, Anupam Kher and Om Puri, among others, to lend their voice to a series, aptly titled the Fever 104 Ramayana. To be aired at 7am everyday, the episodes will make youngsters familiar with the epic, if only they lend an ear.

Ramayana on radio was unheard of, and I was elated to lend my voice to help reach out and educate our youth about it,” says Shah, who plays Raavana in the epic. “We are retelling it in a convenient yet powerful medium. Radio is great to spread love, brotherhood and faith,” says actor Om Puri, who plays Kaal in the episodes.

Youngsters, meanwhile, are lapping it up. The Facebook page of the show has 2147 fans already. Interestingly, a majority of them are between the age group of 18-24.
