Nargis Fakhri will host a charity concert in aid of the NGO, Akshara Centre. This is the second year for this initiative driven by KWAN, India’s premier talent management agency that supports Akshara’s Empowering Dream Programme to educate 100 underprivileged girls in Mumbai.
The headline act will feature musician Karsh Kale, along with singers Shilpa Rao, Shruti Pathak and Apeksha Dandekar and Shefali Alvares. Game actor Sarah Jane Dias will sing a live set for the first time.
It’s a first for Nargis too. The actor has never hosted an event before.
“I’m nervous, but I tell myself that I had never acted or done a live dance performance before Rockstar. There’s always a first time for everything and I know it will be fun,” she asserts.
For her, Woman's Day is important because you can use a platform to acknowledge, support and empower women from all walks of life. “I love being a woman!’ she exults. “We are beautiful, smart and strong. We create life and at some point in our lives, learn about unconditional love.”
Even though she has always donated clothes, money, food and time freely, Nargis admits she has never done charity work with an organisation. “But Akshara has been working for women for 16 years and a rock concert is a fun platform to engage with the youth and spread the word while they are having a good time,” she reasons.
“You will not hear me sing on stage this time. Maybe one day when I get better at playing my guitar, I will go live.”
Nargis dedicates five songs to women
Destiny's Child’s Independent Woman: You can achieve whatever your heart desires if you believe in yourself.
Christina Aguilera’s Fighter: No matter how badly you’re knocked down, get up. Never give up.
Beyonce’s runs the World (Girls): Love the song, sing it loud.
Meredith Brooks’s I'm a b***h: Don’t take the words negatively, being a b***h is what makes us irresistible!
Christina Aguilera’s Can’t hold us down: A song about the double standards we face as women.
