You can also be at risk while driving alone. We give you some tips on how to avoid trouble while you are alone in your car:
If you drive alone, keep your car in a good condition, with the gas tank at least half full, and always check the tires for pressure and wear and tear. Park in well-lit places. Walk with others after dark. If you use an underground parking area, make sure you park near the attendant or exit. Always lock your car and keep all the windows tightly closed.
People say that don’t take the subways when alone at night. Keeping this advice in mind, I once decided to take the road, but it was no better. While I was waiting for the signal to turn red, a car with three boys in it stopped by me and one of them rolled down the window. They started talking cheap things to me and one of them even asked me to sit in the car for “some fun”. Since the road was so secluded, I had no help around. So I decided to run away. The incident still scares me. -Meeta Singh (name changed)
What the expert says
In such a situation, you should call the police control room and inform them about your whereabouts. Just the initiation of such a gesture would deter the rowdy elements away. If the men still follow, you could try and stop any car for help. People usually are forthcoming to help in such situations. Dr Deepak Raheja, Sr. psychiatrist
