An aspiring Bollywood actor Gehna Vashisht, was allegedly beaten up by social activists in Mumbai, as they were upset with her photoshoot in which she draped the national flag around her waist and teamed it with a bikini.

The incident occurred on Monday evening, when the actor reportedly stepped out of a car and was attacked by 20-25 people. That the attack was taped on camera has led many to believe that it was a publicity stunt.

However, Vashisht denied this in an interview. “Why will I do a publicity stunt? Publicity

ke liye koi apne chehre se khilwaad nahi karega

. (Nobody would mess with their face for publicity). I hurt my jawline and my forehead,” she said.

In the video, Gehna steps out of the car wiping blood off her face after people are seen pelting her with stones that smash the windowshield. The actor asks, “

Kyun maar rahe ho mujhe?

(why are you hitting me),” and then people are seen showing her pictures of her wearing the national flag around her waist saying, “

Yeh desh ka apmaan hai

(this is an insult to the nation.”
