Jai Ho
in Slumdog Millionaire says that despite the international recognition gained by the song, he does not get enough work.
"In the last five years, I have had only 17 songs and it is not a proud thing to say that I get very few projects, " Sukhvinder told PTI.
The singer who made a mark in Bollywood with
Chhaiya Chhaiya
in Mani Ratnam's
Dil Se
, says he likes to work with people who appreciate music rather than just concentrating on delivering a "hit number".
"I don't work with people who tell me that they want me to sing and ask me my price. I am happy if people come up to me and convince me of the wonderful song that has been composed," he said.
Sukhvinder, whose last successful numbers were
Jalwa
(
Fashion
) and
Dhan de dhan
(
Kaminey
) apart from
Jai Ho
, said before recording of any song, he likes to understand the poetry and composition of the song which he will sing.
Sukhvinder said after the success of
Jai Ho
, he was quietly working on
Dhan de dhan
in Kaminey. "I don't sing with any expectations. I had not done
Jai Ho
with any expectation. If the song is good, I believe I need to give my heart and time to it," he said.
