Ushering in Christmas

Get into the festive mood of Christmas with cheery events such as choirs, carnivals and fun fairs taking place in the Capital.

With Christmas just a fortnight away, the city is all geared up for the winter fest. From special Christmas choirs, Santa Claus’s chariot ride to colourful carnivals Delhiites will witness a whole range of festive celebrations over the next two weeks.

There is also a special fest for the people who want to celebrate the festival with a cause.

The carnivals, this year, will be packed with a lot more exciting things than their previous editions. For example, you will get to see a Santa Claus as tall as 60ft and also an 80 ft tall Christmas tree. We bring you five such Christmas carnivals slated to take place in the Capital.

ChristmasTamana Winter Carnival 2011

This annual fair organised by Tamana Special School, will showcase products made by students with special needs. Items such as confectionery, pottery pieces, stationery, and other interesting handicrafts items such as stuff made of handmade paper with lock printing, will be on display.

“This year we also have a special product called the sturdy towel and a vintage shop, which will display vintage items from the personal collection of our friends and family,” says Dr Shyama Chona, founder of the school.

This apart, 150 vendors and Non Government Organisations will exhibit their products in the carnival, and there will also be a multi-cuisine food court.

Festival of Choirs
If seeing your lovable Santa Claus take a ride of a decorated chariot amid a fun procession, was your dream, then this is where you can get to see it.

As part of this festival, a procession will be carried out from the Young Men’s Christian Association at Jai Singh Road, through Connaught Place to Talkatora Stadium, where more than 15 choir groups from Delhi and NCR will perform including famous ones such as Delhi Christian Choir, YMCA Choir, and St Stephen’s Hospital Choir.

Time: 5.30pm onwards (Procession begins at 4pm)

Christmas Carnival at Rajouri Garden
Shopping, amusement, food, relaxation, games, Santa land, candies and a lot more — this carnival will have all of this at a single venue. A 60ft tall Santa Claus and an 80ft tall Christmas tree are the main highlights of the event.

The festival, which will be spread across over 2,50,000 sqft, will also have a dedicated Santa village with a decorated castle, where visitors can meet Santa and share their letters with him. Other events to check out for are a laser show, a magic show, and a puppet show.

Foodies can dig into mouthwatering Mughlai, Chinese, Italian, Indian, Mexican, Lebanese and other world cuisine at the food court.

Christmas Fest
Two separate carnivals will take place here, marked by live performances, special goodies’ stalls and cultural events.

Epicentre Christmas Celebrations
Santa will entertain all with Christmas carols at this carnival. One can also indulge in shopping and fun activities such as watching flims, concerts, performances, and gorge on good food.

The third edition of the festival will kick off with a special turkey dinner on Christmas eve.
