Wanted: Web designer
Bollywood’s first netizen, Shammi Kapoor is looking for someone who can re-design and update his first-ever website.entertainment Updated: May 25, 2010 13:53 IST
At 79, he’s still as active on the Internet as he was when he was 22 years ago, which is when he first logged on to E-world.com. The Internet was an alien concept in India when Shammi Kapoor created his own website, www.junglee.org.in, without any knowledge of web designing. Today, he’s looking for someone who can upgrade and update his site every day.
“I would have liked my website to be called www.shammikapoor.com. But back in 1992, from what I can remember, a boy from Delhi wrote to me asking for my blessings. He wrote that since I wasn’t planning to start a website of my own anytime soon, he wanted to create a fansite called www.shammikapoor.com for me. I gave him the nod. But later, I wanted the name for my personal site. He didn’t give it to me,” chuckles Kapoor.
He recollects that he created his own website when web-designing softwares weren’t a great deal. “Without being a programmer or knowing anything of the language, I set up my site. I only knew a little bit about Apple computers and its software. One of my friends guided me to copy the source code, paste it on my window, keep whatever I wanted to and throw out the remaining. I even added my own pictures and information to it. And my site was ready. Today, I don’t get the time and neither do I have the energy to upgrade and update the site. I need someone to do that for me,” he states.
Grand-daughter to direct
His daughter Kanchan, who has been married to Ketan Desai for many years now, is holidaying with her kids in the US. When asked about his grand-daughter Pooja, who assisted Farah Khan on Om Shanti Om, he says that she’s considering becoming a director soon. “Pooja doesn’t have any plans right now. But after assisting able directors like Farah Khan on magnanimous projects like she did, she’s clear that she wants to become a director. Farah had liked her work a lot. Once she returns from her holiday, I’m sure she’ll begin focusing on her projects,” asserts grandfather Kapoor.
Bringing RK back
Would Pooja be the director to revive the RK banner with Randhir and Rishi Kapoor? He says that he’s unsure of what the plans for its revival actually are. “I know I am physically not in a state to be involved with any production. But let’s see if Pooja and Dabboo (Randhir Kapoor) do,” informs Kapoor.
Bring up his son Aditya Raj Kapoor’s film debut and Kapoor begins to smile ear to ear. “It’s never too late to debut in Bollywood, not today for sure. I’m proud of what my son did in Chase,” he asserts. When asked why Aditya took 53 years to debut in Bollywood, Kapoor says that he was involved in several other activities like an import-export business, his office in Borivli, and even making films in Dubai.
My son has done a gamut of things before he decided to take on movies. He has worked with Dabboo (Randhir Kapoor) on a couple of RK productions as well. They’re friends. They’ve recently shot for Society too. My son has a lot of offers. I think he started late, but started well,” smiles Kapoor, before informing us that his grandson is currently working in Houston and so far, has absolutely no plans of becoming a Bollywood hero.
