Bollywood is reeling with shock, after actor Shiney Ahuja was jailed for allegedly raping his 18-year old domestic help on Sunday. HT City spoke to industry associates and not many were forthcoming to speak on the ‘sensitive’ issue.
Bollywood is reeling with shock, after actor Shiney Ahuja was jailed for allegedly raping his 18-year old domestic help on Sunday. The ‘extremely shy’, ‘I keep to myself’, ‘have no friends in the industry’ actor has landed himself in big trouble with the court rejecting his bail plea yesterday and remanding him in police custody till June 18th.
Meanwhile, Shiney’s lawyer Rizwan Siddiquee added another dimension to the high drama by claiming that he was unceremoniously dropped in favour of another lawyer when he tried to represent Ahuja at the Police station. He said, “I reached the Oshiwara police station immediately after reports came in. However, when I went inside, there was somebody else who called himself Shiney’s lawyer. The police was confused about who was representing the actor, but since I was unaccompanied and both Shiney’s and his wife’s phones were off, I left at about 2 AM.”
HT City spoke to industry associates and not many were forthcoming to speak on the ‘sensitive’ issue. Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt who worked with him in Gangster and Woh Lamhe said, “I am very close to him and have found from senior police officials that the indication from Shiney is that it was consensual sex. I think everyone should be patient and refrain from speculation right now.”
Actress Chitrangada Singh who worked with him in his debut film Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi says, “It is quite a shock. I think it must have been consensual if at all it happened. He is a nice, simple guy...has a family, I don’t think this is true.”
Filmmaker Jahnu Baruah, director of Shiney’s upcoming flick Har Pal said, “This is shameful. Shiney is an obedient boy and a good actor. This makes me feel how different a person can be.” Director Kunal Kohli who worked with the actor in Fanaa, “If Shiney has committed rape, he must be dealt with very severely. Rape is the worst crime a man can commit against a woman. No rapist should be spared.”
