The fashion bug will bite Delhi a month earlier this year. The Wills Lifestyle India Autumn/ Winter Fashion Week — that takes place in March every year — will start in February in 2012, in order to be ahead of other international fashion weeks and avoid any overlap.

"The fashion week this time will take place from February 15 to 19. The governing board decided to have our event before the major fashion weeks take place internationally," says FDCI president Sunil Sethi, adding: "We have sent letters to all FDCI members mentioning our new dates though we are still awaiting confirmation from our venue (Pragati Maidan) and are in discussions with our sponsors for their approval."

The rescheduling has however, got a positive response from the designer fraternity. "February is the perfect peak buying time. In March, when most of the international fashion weeks have wrapped up, the buyers tend to buy less," says designer Reynu Taandon.

"It’s great to have the fashion week in February and probably be the first one to have it. Just that, now we’ll have to work harder to finish our collections in time," says designer JJ Valaya. Designer Anjana Bhargav agrees. "February will get us maximum buyers. But it’ll also put extra pressure on the designers as the orders from the previous fashion week only go by January."
