Putting pastels and powder hues on a backburner, desi and international celebs are raising a toast to the bold, dark lip. From deep oxbloods and marsala to indulgent wine shades — the deepest, more gradient form of red has been the colour of choice for actors including desi stars Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor, Gauahar Khan and many more.
Beauty expert Ambika Pillai says the ‘traditional’ Indian red is typically dark and it’s back in fashion. “The traditional red is actually a deep, dark red shade, which is best when worn in the evenings or for a night-out. This deep red looks stunning on dark skin tones. Wear this lip shade with light coloured clothes, like peaches, tan and coral and you’ll be ready to go!” she says.

Makeup expert Naina Arora adds that the colour is also a big bridal favourite. “Maroons and bold reds were known to be colours preferred by the older generation. But, things have changed. Young girls are loving shades of deep wines.”
