The poster boy of modern-Indian sensibilities, designer Rahul Mishra, is a favourite even on international grounds. This year, at the India Couture Week presented by Hindustan Times and Sunil Sethi Design Alliance, Mishra is adding another feather to his hat by showcasing menswear for the first time.
“There is a cross-pollination of ideas for this collection. I have tried to give everything a fresh look, and historical art a new space,” says the first Indian designer to win the International Woolmark prize. Influenced by miniature paintings along with nature-inspired elements, his collection will see new avatars of zardozi, and lehengas embedded with Swarovski along with his signature 3D embroideries.
About his expectation from the couture week, Rahul says, “The voice of fashion is fragmented in India and needs entertainment tags to make a mark... The coming together of a media powerhouse along with a fashion body like Sunil Sethi Design Alliance is a wonderful thing, and the impact will be felt.”
