Hits or misses?

The first half of Day 5 of fashion week left us disappointed

Neither the hot pink grand finale by designer Manish Arora, complete with psychedelic live music nor designer Nida Mahmood’s edgy time travelling show could salvage the concluding day of the fashion week.

Grumbles, groans and a constant stream of tweets about the slow paced music and yawn-worthy designs echoed the sentiments of the viewers.

However, the edgy boho chic collection by designers Kiran and Meghna for Myoho, as well as the classy cool show by designer Charu Parashar were among the more decent presentations of the evening.

But others, such as the one done by designers Rehane and Pratima Pandey, led to a few raised eyebrows for the lack of inspiration. We tell you what we liked, and what was not worthy of another dekko on Day 5.

The little mercies
Infusing drama to the sluggish Day 5 of the fashion week, designer Nida Mahmood showcased velvet pants, quirky tops, saris and kaftan dresses. The cuff chains, Lennonesque glasses and edgy make up added punch to the show. Designers Kiran and Meghna presented a relaxed, chic collection featuring billowing high-waisted and pencil legged pants teamed with flowing shirt dresses and edgy kimono style long tops that gave a boho-chic vibe.

The visual kill
Slouchy fittings, incoherently matched separates and boring accessories marred designer Mrinalini’s collection. While giving a ‘Barbie goes gothic’ vibe with slinky outfits in pink and black hues, designers Dhruv and Pallavi completely missed the memo for fall fashion sensibilities. In a case of everything going wrong, the Assamese ‘mekhala’ inspired collection by designer Vaishali S got some flak for the confused silhouettes, mismatched prints and the accompanying song track on loop.
