Mohun Bagan’s Sony Norde received ‘false cheques’ on Man of the Match awards

Mohun Bagan’s Haitian star Sony Norde has alleged that he is yet to received the prize money on the Man of the Match (MoM) awards he has won in the I-League and the Federaton Cup during his three-year tenure in India.
In an interview to Bengali daily Pratidin, Norde said that all the cheques he received on account of his Man of the Match accolades, turned out to be ‘false’.
“I have received quite a few Man of the Match cheques in my three years in the I-League and the Federation Cup in these three years. But all of them have turned out to be false cheques; I haven’t received any money from those cheques. I have had at least 25 of such cheques,” he was quoted as saying in the report.
The cheques, each worth Rs. 10,000 each, are awarded by Hero Motocorp Limited, who sponsor both the I-League and the Federation Cup.
I-League CEO Sunando Dhar, however, told Hindustan Times that the issue was related to the documentation submitted by the club.
“A couple of years back when Hero came on board, it was decided that the payment (for MoM awards) would be made directly to the clubs. If it was routed through AIFF, there would have been a case of double taxation.
“Hero’s audit team said that they processed the payment, but because of some documentation, it got stuck. AIFF has no role in that. We have sent repeated reminders to clubs to send the documents in a specific format. It is unfortunate that the issue has not been resolved yet,” he said.
