The incident took place on January 30, when Vijay Kumar, a resident of Surat Nagar, Gurgaon, went to an ATM booth in Sector 4/7 to withdraw some money. The two men who were present inside the ATM booth offered him help in withdrawing money. The fraudsters then asked for Kumar’s ATM pin and pretended to operate the machine by inserting a fake card. Later, they said the machine does not have cash and handed over the fake ATM card to the victim.

The fraud came to light two days later when Kumar went to his bank and asked an employee to help him withdraw money.

“The bank staff told him that he was using a wrong ATM card. Then he checked his account and found that R1.35 lakh was withdrawn from different ATMs in Gurgaon and Delhi,” a senior police officer said.

A case was registered against two unidentified men at Sector 5 police station on Saturday.
