Drones, gliders banned in Gurgaon ahead of PM’s Haryana Day visit

The district administration has banned the use of drones and gliders from October 28 to November 1 as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the city to launch Haryana’s golden jubilee celebrations.

“Exercising powers under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, deputy commissioner TL Satyaprakash has banned the use of battery-operated gliders and drones in the city with effect from October 28 till November 1, the day Haryana’s yearlong golden jubilee celebrations will be launched,” a district administration spokesperson said on Tuesday.

Apart from the Prime Minister, who is the chief guest on the occasion, the event will be attended by chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, chief ministers of BJP-ruled states, 3,000 VIPs and 800 VVIPs. The event is to be held at the Tau Devi Lal stadium.

The spokesperson also said that those involved in sale and purchase of old vehicles and ambassador cars should keep the administration in the loop and submit details of their deals.

“The police have also been advised to keep a vigil for any untoward activity. This is being done to ensure that proper law and order is maintained during the PM’s visit,” he added.

Given the high-profile visit, the police and the administration are taking no chances and are making elaborate security arrangements for the day.

More than 4,500 police personnel will be deployed for security arrangements during the event and 300 CCTV cameras will be installed in and around the stadium. The police will operate five monitoring rooms at the venue’s parking lot to view the footage in real time.

According to the police, while the area around the venue would be fortified a day or two before the scheduled event, the nearby areas will remain a high-security zone till the PM and the dignitaries leave. Public movement would also be prohibited near the venue a day before the event, they said.
