“We want to make it mandatory so that women working late night can feel safe,” said joint commissioner of police, Maheshwar Dayal.

Dayal has requested deputy commissioner PC Meena to make GPS devices mandatory under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). The move will allow the police to penalize any violators under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

To ensure absolute compliance, transporters would be issued clear and strict guidelines, said the joint commissioner. In Gurgaon, 7,000 to 10,000 cabs have been employed by big and small companies.
