The state government on Monday set a deadline of July 31 to shift a crematorium from Sector 29 to a spot close to Atul Kataria Chowk near Sector 14/17 to pave way for construction of a flyover at Iffco Chowk. The government also announced an August 30 deadline for completion of the flyover at Maharana Pratap Chowk on MG Road and an underpass on the route from Medanta - the Medicity hospital to Rajiv Chowk.

Rajesh Khullar, principal secretary to chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, made the announcement on Monday during a video conference with district authorities in Gurgaon held to review the progress of construction on the expressway and other projects.

The 500-year-old Sector 29 crematorium, which belongs to Sukhrali village, falls in the alignment of the elevated U-turn being constructed at Iffco Chowk. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), which is constructing the U-turn, has sent several reminders to the Gurgaon administration in the past three months to move the crematorium that is blocking construction.

Khullar directed the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) authorities to shift the crematorium to an alternative plot near Atul Kataria Chowk.

He also reviewed the progress of the underpasses being constructed at Iffco Chowk, Signature Tower and Rajiv Chowk.

A statement issued by Haryana government on Monday said, “The three underpass work will complete by March 31, 2017. The work for the underpasses began in December 2016. Time period of completion has been reduced to 15 months from 30 months set initially. Principal secretary has asked to expedite the work to complete the underpasses timely, as 50 percent of work is complete till now. (sic)”

In addition, the deadline for the flyover coming up at Maharana Pratap Chowk on old Delhi Road near Sector 14/17 has been set for August 31, 2017.

“Besides that, work on the underpass connecting the road from Medanta the Medicity with national highway (NH) 8 for commuters heading to Delhi will also completed by the end of August,” said Vinay Pratap Singh, additional deputy commissioner (ADC), Gurgaon.

“We also apprised Khullar about the work on the flyover at Hero Honda Chowk. It will be opened to traffic by the end of this month. The Jaipur to Delhi portion of the flyover is already open,” Singh said.
