A fortnight ago, the Huda had ordered the owners of five petrol pumps to remove the structures by February 17 so that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) can continue the construction of underpasses without interruption. A couple of days ago, the highways authority had written to the Huda to remove structures immediately.

Of the five structures, four pumps are located close to Iffco Chowk and one is located near Rajiv Chowk.

Huda administrator Yashpal Yadav said, “I have given them an ultimatum to remove (the pumps) on their own by Monday. I have assured the NHAI that the Huda will remove these structures 24 hours before construction starts. We hope the petrol pump owners will follow the ultimatum. Earlier, the Huda had allotted alternative plots to the petrol pump owners.”

At Iffco Chowk, construction for two U-turns and one underpass is underway to decongest the busy intersection. Construction of underpass has also started at Rajiv Chowk and Signature Tower .

The NHAI said the five fuel stations, including one CNG pump, were asked to remove the structures five months ago.

“These petrol pumps and CNG station are coming in alignment with underpasses proposed at Iffco Chowk, Rajiv Chowk and Signature Tower. The shifting is essential for smooth construction of underpasses,” AK Sharma of NHAI, said.
