The city transport department has come up with a proposal to construct a new interstate bus terminal. The move is aimed at easing congestion on roads in old city. The authorities have zeroed in on a location near Kherki Daula but three other locations are also under consideration.

The new terminal is proposed to be equipped with modern facilities and will decrease the pressure on the existing bus stand in the old city. Currently, the existing bus stand is used by buses plying only to the states bordering Haryana. For other states, commuters have to go to Anand Vihar, Kashmiri Gate and Sarai Kale Khan bus stands in Delhi.
New ISBT is proposed to be constructed at par with Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi so people don’t have to rush to Delhi for getting buses for other states. At present, Volvo buses to some bordering states and inter-city buses ply from the existing bus stand.
According to a senior transport official, authorities have zeroed in on a 90-acre land at Kherki Daula. The terminal would be sprawled on 25 acre land while the rest of the land would be used as a workshop.
The official also said that besides Kherki Daula, four other locations at Kadipur, Daultabad and Gari Harsaru were being considered for the terminal but Kherki Daula is more preferred because of its closeness to the NH-8.
Officials of the district administration, district town and country planning and the transport department met last month to discuss the project for which tenders would be released soon.
According to a proposal, two more bus stands would be constructed in the city at Rajiv Chowk and Sector 29. The bus stand at Rajiv Chowk is aimed at inter-district and intra-district connectivity while Sector 29 bus stand would cater to transportation in Delhi-NCR.
The existing bus stand in old city would be renovated and used for inter-city connectivity. More than 200 buses ply from the existing bus stand. However, it is in shambles in the absence of proper maintenance, said an official at the Gurgaon depot of Haryana roadways.
