Man booked for rape after live-in partner discovers he is married

A woman, on Sunday, lodged a complaint against her live-in partner for allegedly raping her on the pretext of marriage, police said. A case has been registered against the accused under Section 376 (rape) of Indian Penal Code at women police station, sector 51.
According to the police, the complainant, who works as a peon, had been living with the accused for over nine years in Kanhai village, Sector 45.
A police official privy to the case said the woman and accused both hail from Uttar Pradesh.
“On July 15, she came to know from an acquaintance of her live-in partner that the accused was already married and even had a child. When she confronted the man, he escaped and took along Rs 70,000 from their shared accommodation,” the police official said.
Police said the victim then lodged a police complaint alleging that the man duped her with promises of marriage and repeatedly raped her on the pretext of marriage.
The investigating officer, requesting anonymity, said the victim’s statement was recorded and medical examination was conducted on Saturday. She added that they are on a lookout for the man.
