Patient’s mother ‘bites and slap’ security guards at Gurugram hospital

According to the complaint filed by one of the guards, the patient’s mother allegedly bit the guards and slapped them on Sunday, sub-inspector Satish Kumar, in-charge of Sector 43 Police Post, said on Monday.

Two women security guards at the Paras Hospital were allegedly attacked by the mother of a patient, who was being discharged on Sunday, police said.

According to the complaint filed by one of the guards, the patient’s mother allegedly bit the guards and slapped them on Sunday, sub-inspector Satish Kumar, in-charge of Sector 43 Police Post, said on Monday.

The complainant, Rajkumari, 30, works for a private security agency and has been working at the hospital for the past one-and-a-half years.

According to the FIR, the patient, Sunil, was discharged on Saturday, but his family requested to allow him to stay another day. Around 11.50am on Sunday, while being discharged, the patient’s mother Saroj Devi asked for Sunil’s medical documents, police said. The hospital administration said it was given to them earlier, but Saroj allegedly said she did not have them and refused to take her son home, Rajkumari told the police.

“When I and another guard, Basanti Kumari, tried to talk to her, she got angry and bit my right arm and also bit Basanti Kumari on her right arm, and slapped us,” Rajkumari wrote in the police complaint.

Rajkumari told HT that Devi was also making a video of the incident with her mobile phone. “When we tried to stop her from making the video, she bit me. Then the family left; we did not use any force to take the gadget,” Rajkumari said.

A spokesperson of Paras Hospital said Sunil was admitted in 2017 and has been there for the past 20 months. “The patient had an accident and suffered spinal injury when he came to the hospital. When he came here, two of his limbs were not functioning and after the surgery, all his limbs stopped functioning and the family filed a case against the hospital.” He said a board of doctors, appointed by the chief medical officer to look into the case, did not find any medical negligence on the hospital’s part.

An FIR was filed for assault, criminal intimidation, conspiracy. No arrest has been made.
