Students get tips on cyber safety

The police has initiated Cyber Safe Campaign 2013 to create awareness among school children against rising cyber crimes. The inaugural session of the campaign was inaugurated by police commissioner Alok Mittal at CCA School, Sector 4, Gurgaon on Monday.

The police has initiated Cyber Safe Campaign 2013 to create awareness among school children against rising cyber crimes. The inaugural session of the campaign was inaugurated by police commissioner Alok Mittal at CCA School, Sector 4, Gurgaon on Monday.

“Today youngsters are tech-savvy but there is a risk of them falling prey to cyber crime. Such campaigns will help them,” said Mittal. The campaign, which will continue till May 4, will be organised in 12 private schools under the Gurgaon Progressive Schools Council (GPSC) umbrella headed by Nirmal Yadav, principal, CCA School.

Each school will host two sessions for junior and senior students, respectively.

This pilot project has been sponsored by financial company Encore Capital.

“The session was attended by 400 students. Students were explained the legalities in terms of luring, phishing and criminal aspects of cyber crime,” said Col Pratap Singh, president of Haryana progressive school conference (HPSC) and chairman of CCA School.

Cyber expert Rakshit Tandon while talking to students of CCA school threw light on cyber crimes like bullying, blackmailing, hacking, phishing, stealing bank or credit card IDs and cyber porn among others.
