New nasal cream
A new pollen blocker cream can effectively reduce symptoms of allergic rhinitis, says study.
A New pollen blocker cream applied inside the lower part of the nose can effectively reduce symptoms of allergic rhinitis.
According to the study, which has been published in The Archives of Otolaryngology, the new ointment was found to successfully prevent allergens entering the nose, thus helping reduce the symptoms.
Dr. Swetlana Schwetz of the Federal Scientific Research Center in Moscow and colleagues tested the effectiveness and safety of this cream in a double-blind, placebo-controlled outpatient centers in Germany and Russia.
The application of the pollen blocking cream in patients with at least a 2-year history of rhinitis showed the median symptom score decreasing from four to one.
In the case of placebo gel, the median symptom decrease was pegged at four to three.
"The blocker was significantly more effective than placebo and reduced the typical symptoms of allergic rhinitis in response to nasal challenge with allergen by nearly 60 percent (placebo reduced symptoms by 25 percent). The pollen blocker cream did not produce any adverse effects. Therefore, the efficacy of the investigational product can be rated as good," said the researchers.
