The Shaair+Func singer, who made her acting debut with Dhobi Ghat (2010), admits she’s always been inclined towards dancing and yoga. “But this year, I hired a personal trainer and combined working out at the gym with yoga. And the results are amazing,” she says, adding, “Within one month of doing yoga three times a week and hitting the gym five times a week, I lost about five to seven kilos. Plus, I don’t need to sleep as much as I used to and I still wake up with more energy.”

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, Monica starts her day with an hour of yoga, focussing on a different body part for each session.

Five times a week, she combines high-intensity interval training at the gym with minimal weights, paying attention to the bottom half of her body. “I focus on my butt, legs and core,” she elaborates.

“It’s important not to make excuses,” she says, adding, “When you’re exercising, the body progresses slowly, but regresses quickly. If I can’t make it to the gym on a particular day, I make sure to run about four kilometres at night.”

With her hectic travelling schedule, Monica also has to improvise her gym routine by adapting it to solitary workouts in hotel rooms. “I do sit-ups, crunches and lunges while watching TV,” she reveals.
