Madhuri Dixit Nene remembers late superstar Dharmendra: He was so down to earth and so handsome
Madhuri Dixit Nene fondly remembers veteran superstar Dharmendra a week after he passed away
On November 24, just two weeks before his 90th birthday, Bollywood superstar Dharmendra passed away due to age-related illnesses. The He-Man of Bollywood breathed his last at his Mumbai residence, after which his last rites were performed at the Pawan Hans Crematorium. Stars including Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Salim Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and others rushed to pay their last respects to the irreplaceable gem Bollywood lost that day. Well, in her latest interview, actor Madhuri Dixit Nene has opened up about the handsome Dharam Paaji, who she worked with in films such as Khatron Ke Khiladi (1988) and Paappi Devataa (1995).
During her appearance on the ANI podcast, actor Madhuri Dixit fondly remembered Dharmendra. She shared, “I worked with him, I think in one film he was there. Amazing person. I mean, I have met him a couple of times and he’s always been so gracious, so down to earth and so handsome. You know, his favourite song for me was Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas Tum Rehti Ho. Oh my god… And that fits so nicely, for him also.” Talking about how the actor recreated himself time and again, Madhuri shared, “Oh yes. Reinvented! Absolutely. Chupke Chupke, I mean that was such a lovely movie. But he always had that!”
When asked if she was talking about the twinkle in Dharam Paaji’s eyes, Madhuri exclaimed, “Oh yeah! And that Basanti scene where he was drunk and you know, ‘Chakki peesing…’ Remember that scene? He was amazing in that too.”
Sriram Raghavan’s Ikkis will mark Dharam Paaji’s posthumous film appearance. The film, slated to release on December 25, marks Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson Agastya Nanda’s theatrical debut. Madhuri, on the other hand, is currently busy gearing up for Mrs Deshpande. She will be seen as a serial killer in the upcoming dark thriller series.
