22-year-old killed as Pakistan violates ceasefire in Poonch
A civilian was killed in small arms firing by Pakistani forces along the line of control (LoC) in Poonch district on Thursday night.
The victim was identified as Mohammed Ikhlaq, a 22-year-old resident of Kalsian village.
“The Pakistan army opened small arms fire in Kalsian village of Malti-Gulpur area along the LoC in Poonch district around 11.30 pm on Thursday. A civilian died after being hit by a bullet,” a police officer at the Poonch control room said, adding that a team led by station house officer Tejinder Pal Singh has been sent to the spot.
The officer said Pakistani forces opened fire while people in the area were attending a marriage ceremony.
There has been a spurt in ceasefire violations along the LoC as well as the international border in Jammu and Kashmir this year. As many as 31 people, including 16 security personnel, have died in over 700 incidents of the kind since January.
