Delhi Police responds as Cong leader asks personnel: 'Kyun maar rahe ho'

The Congress protest - which has been labelled as 'Satyagraha' - is being held all across India to protest against party interim president Sonia Gandhi's questioning in the National Herald Case.

As protests intensified over the questioning of Sonia Gandhi by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the National Herald Case on Tuesday, a video surfaced that purportedly showed cops pulling hair of the Indian Youth Congress's Srinivas BV. In the clip shared on social media, Srinivas was seen being pushed inside the police van.

Struggling to come out of the van, an agitated Srinivas told reporters, “I was hit.” The video also purportedly showed some security personnel pushing Srinivas BV inside the van. “Aap log kyun maar rahe?” (Why are you hitting me?) the Youth Congress president asked, to which an RAF personnel replied, “No one is hitting you.”

Srinivas was finally seated in the police van and taken away from the protest site. Taking to Twitter, he took a veiled jibe at the central government and said, “In independent India, if Congress workers cannot even come outside their party headquarters, then what's the point of democracy? Why is the dictator so afraid?”

Later, the Delhi Police said: 'We are trying to identify the staff. Disciplinary action would be initiated against the staff after identification.'

Sonia Gandhi's son and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and several other party MPs were detained after they gathered at the Vijay Chowk to march towards the Rashtrapati Bhavan to draw the President's attention to the alleged misuse of central agencies by the Centre. Gandhi and other Congress MPs have been detained at the Kingsway Police camp. Initially, officials refused to divulge where Rahul Gandhi was being taken.

"India is a police state, Modi is a king," Rahul Gandhi alleged. Before being detained he said, “All (Congress) MPs came here. They talked about inflation and unemployment. They (Police) are not allowing us to sit here. Discussions are not allowed inside (the Parliament) and here they are arresting us.”
