South Indian superstar Mohanlal’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday has set off speculation with some even suggesting that he will be the BJP candidate from prestigious Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency presently represented by Congress’ Shashi Tharoor.

PM Modi’s tweet praising the actor added to the rumours. “Yesterday I had a wonderful meeting with Mohanlal Ji. His humility is endearing. His wide range of social service initiatives are commendable and extremely inspiring,” PM Modi tweeted this morning.

Mohanlal, while sharing details of his meeting with PM Modi in a Facebook post, said: “He has assured all support and offered to participate in the ‘global Malayalee round table’ that can formulate futuristic solutions for a new Kerala.”

Mohanlal also said that he briefed PM Modi about social initiatives carried out by his organization ‘VishwaShanti Foundation.’ He also posted a picture of the meeting with the PM.

However, sources close to the actor dismissed speculation and insisted that his meeting was planned much earlier and it was only meant to brief the PM about his social initiatives.

When demonitisation was announced in 2016 the actor had openly supported the move saying it was good to end corruption and exhorted people to take temporary hardships lightly. He. However, was trolled on social media for his comments.

Some came out with the same theory that BJP’s mentor RSS was keen to make him a candidate in the state capital.
