BJP national executive meet Highlights: PM Modi says battle against corruption is uncompromising

BJP will focus on the issues of economic slowdown, job cuts at the meeting. The party is also expected to take up the issues of the impact of GST, demonetisation and other economic policies.

The Bharatiya Janata Party members met to review the party’s performance and the impact of its policies at the ongoing national executive at the Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi on Monday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi told party workers that his “battle against corruption” was “uncompromising” and whoever is caught will not be spared.

BJP president Amit Shah also addressed party MLAs, MPs and other office bearers.

Here are the highlights:


5:40pm: PM Modi will make an important announcement in a while during an event to celebrate the birth anniversary of Hindutva icon Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, says Jaitley.

5:37pm: “The Congress from 2004 to 2014 did not take a single step against black money and corruption. So naturally, any step by us will not be supported by the UPA,” says Jaitley.

5:34pm: “PM Modi said: My battle against corruption is uncompromising. And whoever is being caught, will not be spared. I have no relatives,” Jaitley.

5:33pm: The PM said BJP’s fight against terrorism will continue... Other countries are also cooperating with India’s fight. 90 hardcore terrorists have been deported from abroad: Jaitley.

5:32pm: “PM Modi spoke about two important topics during the meeting: Terrorism and Corruption,” Jaitley.

5:30pm: 13 CMs, six Deputy CMs, 232 state ministers, 1,500 MLAs and 334 MPs were present in BJP national executive meeting: Jaitley.

5:28pm: Harsh words (by the opposition) cannot be a substitute for any substantive charge against the government: Jaitley.

5:27pm: On Sardar Patel’s birthday on October 31, the BJP will organise a ‘Run for Unity’ event, says Jaitley.

5:25pm: No other political party in the country is as active as the BJP: Jaitley.

5:23pm: The PM said we should make the BJP an instrument of mass participation to improve the quality of lives of people, says Jaitley.

The standoff was solved by diplomatic and Amit Shah congratulated PM Modi for resolving the issue.

12:56 pm: Piyush Goyal speaks on BHU violence, says a kind of incident like that is a matter of concern and UP government is looking into it.

12:52 pm: Amit Shah said Rahul Gandhi should answer what Congress government- which is alleged of corruption charges worth Rs 12 lakh crore- has done for the country. Rahul Gandhi should answer how development was stalled during his party’s government.

12:50 pm: Amit Shah praised the speech of Sushma Swaraj at United Nations and her criticism of terrorism in Pakistan.

12:49 pm: Piyush Goyal confident that BJP will register a historic win in upcoming Gujarat polls.

12:40 pm: Amit Shah dwelled at length on the number of steps taken to get rid of corruption and black money. He listed out all the various steps, starting from the SIT on blackmoney, spoke on demonetisation- which ensured that this government is serious about black money- the treaties signed with Mauritius and other countries, about modifications in Benami rule also closing down of 2 lakh shell companies: Piyush Goyal

12:38 pm: BJP members took pledged to realise a country that is clean, poverty and corruption free: Piyush Goel

70 years post Independence, India is still struggling under a lot of challenges. Amit Shah said everyone has a dream of new India which is free of dirt, hunger, corruption, communalism. The work of every BJP worker is to pursue that dream.

12:16 pm: Piyush Goyal addresses press conference. He says Amit Shah addressed the national meet and spoke on rural development programmes to BJP workers.

11: 10 am: A total of 2,500 delegates, including thirteen chief ministers of the BJP-ruled states, 1400 legislators and 280 Parliamentarians, are expected to attend the day-long session.

10:45 am: BJP meet begins.

10:30 am: Leaders arrive for BJP national executive meet, to begin shortly, reports ANI.

10:00 am: The national executive meet coincides with the birth centenary celebrations of BJP ideologue, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya. The meeting will serve as the closing ceremony of the centenary programme.
