'Britishers were afraid of Netaji,' says Anurag Thakur on Subhas Chandra Bose's birth anniversary

Thakur recalled how Netaji left the Indian Civil Service (ICS), equivalent to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), to join the freedom struggle and stand up against the Britishers.

Union minister Anurag Thakur remembered the valour of Subhash Chandra Bose ahead of his birth anniversary on Sunday at an event in Kolkata. Addressing the youth at Yuvotsav 2023, Thakur recalled how Netaji left the Indian Civil Service (ICS), equivalent to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), to join the freedom struggle and stand up against the Britishers.

"Netaji left ICS and dedicated himself to the country's freedom struggle. Netaji stood alone in front of the Britishers. Britishers said they were not afraid of Mahatma Gandhi. Britishers were afraid of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. There were several freedom fighters on Bengal's soil so the Britishers had to move to Delhi," he said.

The Union minister further urged the youth to take up the responsibility to fight against those who are trying to “murder the democracy”.

"Many freedom fighters took birth on this land. If you can free this land from Britishers, you can also free this land from those who are murdering democracy. You have to save the name of Bengal," he added.
