The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a criminal case to probe allegations of misappropriation of government funds in Uttar Pradesh’s social welfare department during the Samajwadi Party rule.
The case was filed on the directions of the Allahabad high court where two affidavits were filed accusing officials of the State Social Welfare Board and Building and other Construction Welfare Board of diverting government funds meant for a housing scheme called Sachal Palna Grah Yojana.
According to one of the affidavits, several irregularities came to fore when an inspection was carried out to examine the housing scheme launched in 2013-14.
In another affidavit filed in the same matter, it was alleged that crores of rupees were misappropriated by government officials in connivance with non-governmental organisations under the scheme operational in all 72 districts of UP.
On Thursday, the CBI booked unknown officials of the state government under charges of corruption, criminal conspiracy and misconduct.
