At a press meet on Wednesday, Dev said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is taking credit for schemes such as Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, which have not worked on ground. “There is no assessment, no evidence and no data to back up the praise.”

She said the Congress would amend service rules to reserve 33% posts for women. “We will provide fiscal incentives to businesses that employ a certain percentage of women, we will provide hostels and safe transport in SEZs and will repeal any provision of law that prohibits night shifts for women.”

Apsara Reddy, national general secretary of its women’s wing, said she was against the transgender protection bill brought by the BJP . “The bill says that transgender women who are sent away from their homes cannot live together. The self Identification bill too states that a person needs to go to the district committee to know if he’s good enough to be a woman. This is discrimination and there should be no need of a certificate from a third person.”

Dev also took a dig at former Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi who joined the Shiv Sena. She said, “Priyanka and I worked together for many years in the communications cell. I fear for her safety in the Shiv Sena.”
