Chhattisgarh Election Results 2023 highlights: Official results have started trickling in from Chhattisgarh, and The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to reclaim power, just five years after being voted out, in December 2018. This year, the state voted on November 7 and 17, recording a 76.31% turnout over the two phases.

As per the latest ECI trends, the saffron party is well ahead of its arch-rival, the ruling Congress.

Also It must be noted that these trends, while still not final, are likely to hold, as the gap between the two parties has only been increasing over the past couple of hours.

Five years ago, Chhattisgarh elected its first non-BJP government in 15 years; the Congress stormed to power with 68 seats in the 90-member assembly, while the saffron party, which was in power here under Raman Singh's leadership since the first assembly election, in December 2003, was reduced to just 15 seats.

Bhupesh Baghel became the state's second Congress chief minister; the late Ajit Jogi was the first person to hold the top post. Chhattisgarh was carved out of its neighbour, Madhya Pradesh, in November 2000.

Exit polls for the current election had projected that the grand old party will get another term, though with a reduced tally as compared to the previous 2018 polls. The results, however, as can be seen, will most likely not be in line with the projections.

Exit polls, it must be noted, have history of calling elections wrong.
