CM Rekha Gupta-led panel to monitor pollution in Delhi, levy fines on all violators

The panel will comprise some ministers from the Delhi government, as well as representatives from all departments.

The Delhi government is all set up a panel, led by chief minister Rekha Gupta, to monitor the pollution levels in the national capital.

The panel will comprise ministers from the Delhi cabinet, representatives from government departments, as well as experts and scientists.

Apart from this, all departments have been directed to ensure that penalties are levied for any pollution-related violations, including on individuals, private and government agencies.

The air quality in Delhi remained in the ‘very poor’ category for the third consecutive day on Wednesday. The AQI reading on Wednesday was 333 as of 5:30 pm, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

Nehru Nagar in the Capital had the highest AQI reading of 388, while the lowest reading of 236 was at Mandir Marg.

Centre's deadline for Delhi-NCR industries to install emission monitors

Meanwhile, the Centre on Wednesday directed authorities in Delhi-NCR to crackdown on highly polluting industries which do not install real-time emission monitoring systems and air pollution control devices by December 31.

The central government also directed the states in Delhi-NCR to finalise their 2026 air pollution control plans within a month, PTI news agency reported.

CPCB chairman Vir Vikram Yadav said 2,254 highly polluting industries in Delhi-NCR had not yet installed and connected their Online Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (OCEMS) to the CPCB server.

He further warned that strict action, which could also lead to closure, will be taken against industries that do not meet the December 31 deadline.

Plea on measures to control pollution: Delhi HC advises petitioner to approach SC

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday heard a plea seeking urgent measures to control pollution in the national capital.

The HC advised the petitioner to approach the Supreme Court, noting that the top court has been monitoring the issue related to air quality in Delhi and has passed various orders, Live Law reported.

“A similar matter is pending before the Supreme Court and the situation in and around Delhi is being monitored here. Tell us, why should be entertain this?” Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya said, according to Live Law.
