BHARATPUR: Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) constables were arrested late on Sunday on charges of killing the woman constable’s husband during a visit to Delhi and burying his body 200km away in Rajasthan’s Alwar, the Bharatpur police said on Monday.
Girraj, Khoh station house officer said the two accused, identified Ram Pratap Gurjar, 31, and Poonam Devi, 32, were constables in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). They got to know each other when they were posted in Srinagar and had been in a relationship for more than two years.
They were arrested late on Sunday after Gurjar led them to the body of Poonam Devi’s husband, Sanjay Singh, which was buried on a parcel of land in Alwar district’s Bansur.
According to preliminary investigation, police said the accused allegedly decided to kill Sanjay Singh after he learnt about his wife’s relationship and thrashed her when she last came home.
Police said Poonam Devi, who was posted in Delhi, called her husband to national capital on July 31. She and Gurjar strangled him soon after he reached. Once the two allegedly killed him, she went back to work while Gurjar drove back to Alwar with the body where he buried him.
Sanjay Singh, a resident of Khoh area in Bharatpur, told his father on July 31 that he was going to Delhi to meet his wife Poonam and expected to be away for three days.
His father Maniram Singh told the police that he last spoke to Sanjay when he was at the Ballabhgarh metro station, and that he could not get in touch with his son again. His phone was switched off. Maniram finally approached the Khoh police for help on August 1 after Poonam Devi insisted that he hadn’t showed up.
Maniram Singh said Poonam Devi, and her two sisters from Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura district, married his three sons in 2010. The family supported Poonam Devi get recruited to the CRPF in 2014, he added.
