CRPF jawan killed in militant attack in Srinagar

A Central Reserve Police Force (CRFP) trooper who was injured when militants attacked a paramilitary patrol party in Srinagar’s Batamaloo area Tuesday afternoon, succumbed to injuries in a hospital.
Police said the militants fired on the CRPF patrol party at busy Balgarden in the congested area of the city before escaping from the spot..
“Terrorists fired at security force naka near Batmaloo,” a police spokesman said adding that jawans showed restraint after they came under attack.
Locals fled to safer places when they heard firing in the area.
Soon after the attack, police and the CRPF cordoned the area and started a search for the militants. So far no militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack.
On July 13, two CRPF personnel, including an officer, were killed and a civilian was injured when militants attacked their vehicle at Achabal in south Kashmir, seven kilometres from Anantnag town.
Last week militants had fired at a CRPF patrol at Mattan in south Kashmir. Fortunately, nobody was injured in the attack.
There has been spike in attacks on the security forces this year. Around 45 security force personnel including 24 men of Jammu and Kashmir Police have been killed in different incidents and attacks on the forces since January.
