ED attaches Rs 89 lakh in probe against Pawan Kumar Bansal’s nephew

The anti-money laundering probe agency said in a statement on Tuesday that it has issued a provisional order under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to freeze the bribe money, which according to it was “proceeds of crime” in a railway bribe case.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached cash worth Rs.89.68 lakh in a money-laundering probe against former railway minister and Congress leader Pawan Kumar Bansal’s nephew Vijay Singla.

The cash was allegedly seized by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from the office of Bansal’s nephew Vijay Singla in 2013 in a corruption case related to appointments at top positions in the railways, when Bansal was the Union railway minister in the United Progressive Alliance II regime.

Bansal is contesting the Lok Sabha election from Chandigarh.

The cash was allegedly seized by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from the office of Bansal’s nephew Vijay Singla in 2013 in a corruption case related to appointments at top positions in the railways, when Bansal was the Union railway minister in the United Progressive Alliance – 2 regime.

On the basis of the CBI FIR, the ED had filed a money laundering case against then Railway Board Member (Staff) Mahesh Kumar, Vijay Singla, one Sandeep Goyal and seven others.

“Singla demanded ₹ 10 crore through Sandeep Goyal from N Manjunath to get Mahesh Kumar posted as Member (Electrical),” the ED said, quoting the Central Bureau of Investigation probe.
