Congress leader Manish Tewari said welcoming PM Modi was a political courtesy.

"If Shri Narendra Modi visits my Parliamentary Constituency Sri Anandpur Sahib, courtesy demands I welcome him notwithstanding political differences," the Congress MP tweeted.

PM Modi on Wednesday inaugurated Homi Bhaba Cancer Hospital and Research Centre at Sri Anandpur Sahib, the parliamentary constituency of Manish Tewari. "Dr Manmohan Singh had laid Foundation Stone on 30th December 2013. Sh @narendramodi@PMOIndia did the honours today," the Congress leader tweeted.

The speculations on social media were triggered as the Congress is facing upheaval with veteran leaders quitting their internal posts. After Ghulam Nabi Azad resigned as chairman of the campaign committee in Jammu and Kashmir, Anand Sharma quit the chairmanship of the party's steering committee for the state. On Wednesday, Jaiveer Shergill quit the party bringing allegations of sycophancy.

The party needs revival which is possible with collective efforts, Anand Sharma said on Wednesday after a meeting with state party chief Pratibha Virbhadra Singh. He also said his quitting the post won't come in the way of campaigning for the party. "I will campaign for the Congress party wherever it is required. Congress needs to come out of factionalism and stay united. We are all Congressmen. What is important is that the Congress party stays strong," he said.

Congress said it will stick to its schedule of electing a new chief by September 20. Interim chief Sonia Gandhi is abroad for her medical check-up along with Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi.
