ISRO Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle Mission: The mission marks the launch of OceanSat-3 on board the PSLV; eight nano satellites have also been shot off in the space
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has launched its latest mission as it shot off EOS-06 (Earth Observation Satellite - 06) and eight nano-satellites into the space on Saturday. The countdown - which spanned over 24 hours - began on Friday. While it is the 56th flight of Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV), this is the final mission for the year for PSLV-C54 rocket. PSLV is one of the most trusted rockets of the ISRO.
Here are five points on the ISRO's latest mission:
1) An OceanSat-3, or the Earth Observation Satellite, was the primary payload of the rocket.
2) A diplomatic satellite Nano Satellite-2 for Bhutan (INS-2B), a hyperspectral satellite Anand for Bengaluru-based tech start-up Pixxel, Thybolt-1 and Thybolt-2 from Dhruva Space, and four satellites for US-based Spaceflight are among the eight nano-satellites which are a part of the mission, HT had reported earlier.
3) The mission objective is said to be to ensure the data continuity of Ocean colour and wind vector data to sustain the operational applications.
4) The Earth Observation Satellite-6 is the third-generation satellite in the OceanSat series, designed and developed for ocean studies.
5) The latest launch also comes nearly a week after the entry of private sector in the space sector with the launch of Vikram-S. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the launch as "historic" and said the accomplishment bears testimony to the immense talent of India's youth who took full advantage of the landmark space sector reforms of June 2020.
